Went for a 1 mile run this morning. Today is really a rest day, but I just wanted to get some data on the new garmin watch and see how that works. It also served as a way for Shelley to calibrate her foot pod for her watch.
All in all, so far, the watch and software seem to be fairly easy to use. Seems like the default for the mapping functions is Bing. (insert barf sounds here) At least it can be changed to Google Maps.
For the first run, it was very interesting to see what my heart rate does. A little more erratic than I would have thought and my heart rate peaks pretty early as well. But, after a bit, I settle into about a 130-140 range. I think that's pretty decent for where I'm at now.
I didn't burn any calories on this run. Well, I did, but the data didn't show it. I had my body weight entered on my watch, but I didn't have it all set up in my profile on the garmin connect site. So, maybe next time I'll see how many calories I burn on a run.
Oh, I also noticed that without the foot pod, I can't track my running cadence. I guess I should have realized that with the use of something called logic. Alas... Maybe another reason to be looking at getting a foot pod in the future.
For now, I'm just learning my way through all the software. It does look like this will be a very useful tool for my training. Its really nice to be able to review all the data on the run afterwards, but it is really nice to have an instantaneous display of pace and distance right there on my wrist the whole time.
