Well, sounds like I'm not the only one who has gotten hurt when training for a marathon. I just learned this morning, watching The Weather Channel, that Stephanie Abrams was training for the NYC marathon, but is unable to take part due to injury. Of course, I don't know the nature of her injury, but she did seem to be fairly bummed about it.
Can't blame her one bit there. I was more than a bit pissed about not being able to finish. In honestly, when I hurt my ITB a few weeks prior to the marathon, I shouldn't have even tried to run it. There's no way the ITB injury would have healed and been ready for 26 miles in just a few weeks. In reality, it was over before it started.
Ran another 2 miles this morning. I borrowed my wife's heart rate monitor for this run. My average heart rate for this short run was in the 130s. Not too bad, I don't think. However, I do see big benefits for training with a heart rate monitor. I think I actually might have an old one packed away somewhere. Its very basic and doesn't have all the fancy features that modern ones too, but might be a good place to start since if I can find it, its free!
